MyPRtools – When You Absolutely, Positively Don’t Need a PR Agency

Posted on Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

PR account executives, grab your smelling salts.  We’re about commit the ultimate industry apostasy.  Here goes: Hiring a PR firm is not for everybody. Small businesses may be better off going DIY with a little help from new packaged solutions.

This wild idea (for a PR agency) came to our attention via “myPRtools” http://myprtools.com/Home.aspx , a company offering  just that – a simple set of tools designed to help small business owners handle basic PR functions on their own.

Do we think myPRtools will replace the value provided by an agency or do everything a great agency can do?  No, but small businesses usually don’t need all that.

Do we believe that small businesses using this tool set will awake the next day to find themselves on the front page of The Wall Street Journal?  Well, you never know.  But that, too, is beside the point.

Why care about myPRtools?  Because it’s about time that someone paid attention to the PR needs of the small business sector.  Many startups have great stories to tell, as do more established small players that simply don’t know how to go about doing PR.

Disclaimer: We haven’t tested myPRtools, thus are in no position to endorse the product.  But we’ve reviewed their site, like what they say – and fully support their idea.

Yes,this IS a great idea. As a life/business coach for the small business owner, I really see how this fulfills a need. Small business owners need pr just as much – maybe more – than the larger company, but they have a much smaller budget. This is perfect.

I have to admit to some bias as I worked with Christine in the early development of this idea, but am very impressed with what she has done with it and am glad for the many clients who she will be able to serve with it.

PR is an incredible marketing tool for any business. This gives smaller companies the opportunity to utilize this service at an affordable cost.

This idea is intriguing and I think the possibilities are great. I’ve been practicing PR for 30+ years and have always wanted to provide PR for small businesses, but they just can’t afford the fees necessary for one to make a living. These tools will hopefully make that possible. I’m going to try it, (for my new video for the web business)and I’ll let you know how it works. Look for me on the front page or well exposed on the internet.

Wow — even PR agencies are using this tool! BTW, Charlotte, I love your web site and was totally “charmed” by your video. I may just break down and hire you myself. Eek — a PR agency hiring another PR agency — where will it all end?

    All the best,

    Jim Crawford
